Monday Faces

Pencils & Watercolours

I've been working on watercolours on a separate project and decided to pick them up again for the Monday Faces. The best part is doing splatters! It's a great way to have fun with a bit of colour while keeping the pencil detail.

Enjoy this week's mood board!

Spirited: A Studio Ghibli Inspired Exhibition

So pleased to say that 'Moro's Daughter' was sold in the first hour after the opening. Thanks Yani for the purchase and hope you enjoy San & Moro as much as I enjoyed painting them. I will be releasing prints of this painting in the coming months so stay tune for updates.

To the main event, it was a real success. There was a long line to get in and I popped in after 2pm. Great to see kids having fun and seeing people enjoying the works. There were performances and workshops for everyone.

I overheard some people saying it was a pity it was just a one day event. Hopefully more support for these exhibitions and art in Adelaide can help in the future.

Moro's Daughter

'Moro's Daughter'
Oils on canvas paper

This is my painting for Spirited: A Studio Ghibli Exhibition. People who have seen Princess Mononoke who probably recognize San and Moro. I kept the style similar to the dolls that I painted before. Painting Moro took longer than expected and there's so much fur going on. I managed to finish this in record time and you'll be able to see this painting in person this Saturday.

If you enjoy Studio Ghibli films and you're in Adelaide, come on down to the Himeiji Gardens. It's a one day pop-up exhibition on the 26th July and it goes from 10am - 5pm. Local, interstate and overseas artists are involved in it and there'll be fun for kids as well.

More details here.
Hope to see you there!

Monday Faces

Pencils on bond paper
Model: Noma Han

I'll admit I enjoyed drawing this week's monday face, not just for obvious reasons. I've only painted tattoos once (an owl on 'Eve' in oils) and this is a first time to drawing them. Muscles was the second challenge but the hair took the longest! Layers of graphite to make it look the way it is. Think I'll draw more spunky fellows from now on.

Other than that, I had a relapse from my virus over the weekend. Doing my best to quit stressing even though it comes naturally. The pain did spread to my neck, head and back but it's manageable with the meds. Can't wait to be 100% fully recovered and I'm so missing my chocolate :(

Hope everyone had a good one.

A good read!

Last week, fellow illustrator Andrea Innocent shared this article with me. Written by David Palumbo, it highlights some struggles that artists go through. I can identify with it and have gone through some of them. It's a tough journey and will be well rewarded in the end. It's a good read or must-read! Some great advice and also try out the exercise in the end.

Monday Faces

Pencil and pen brush on moleskine

Just a partial side of a face for this Monday. I haven't been able to draw due to a virus. It sure is a pain (literally) and more of a pain that I have to stay away from chocolate and nuts. I'm looking at my dark chocolate stash and peanut butter with the saddest eyes. It'll take a couple more weeks to fully recover so meanwhile, I'll try to keep up with the work with the best I can.

Also, been trying to do a bit of painting on black paper. It is tricky but it'll get there.

Have a good week!
